Summer brings warmth, activity, extroversion, and expansion. Just as the Sun burns, alive with energy, so the hands dominated by the fire element reflect a personality that is ardent, expressive, radiant, and brimming with enthusiasm. Fire-handed people are adventurous, friendly, and exciting to be with. They thrive on getting things done and are often passionate about bringing change to the world.
Palm
The typical fire hand has a rectangular palm. That means that when you look at the palm, it appears more like a rectangle than a square. Rectangles are a shape that induces movement, and the fire-handed person is dynamic. Fire types are energetic and love physical activity, especially when that activity is challenging or competitive. They tend to be always on the go. This fiery vibrancy can sometimes make it difficult for fire-hand types to stick to routines and habits. They would rather go have a new adventure!
Fingers
The fingers of the typical fire hand are short in relation to the palm. To determine finger length, measure and compare the length of the middle finger to the length of the palm. If the finger length is less than ¾ that of the palm, then the fingers are short.
Finger length is indicative of how much time a person spontaneously spends thinking about things and how attentive to detail they are. This is one of the few counter-intuitive categories in hand analysis. Most people think that the shorter the fingers and the smaller the hand, the greater the attention to detail. In fact, the opposite is true: short-fingered people are more likely to grasp a situation quickly and intuitively and gloss over details on their way towards a rapid assessment.
The mind of the short-fingered fire-handed type views things in wide-sweeping fashion. Their natural distaste for detail often gives rise to one of the chief faults of those with fire hands: impatience. Impatience can easily turn into intolerance of those who do not share the fire-type quickness of thought or action. Fire-handed people can literally ‘sear’ others with their intensity, and their sometimes straight-out anger. But when in balance, that same impetuous nature can ignite enthusiasm and warmth in the hearts of others, bringing the best out of all the fire-handed person interact with.
Just like a burning fire has multiple tongues of flame that flicker with inconsistent energy, a fire-handed person can flicker with enthusiasm at new and exciting things, but then have difficulty sustaining this enthusiasm once the initial fun and joy has subsided. Those with fire hands can readily exemplify the ‘jack of all trades and master of none’ expression. The inability to commit, focus, and take on the hard work required to master something leads the fire-hand type to move on, sometimes before what they are doing is completed.
The typical fire type dislikes problems that can’t be unraveled quickly, as they tend to solve problems intuitively rather than intellectually. How can those of us with fire hands master our element and learn to work with it productively? When we deeply connect to the fire element, we find that fire is innately ambitious. This strong desire to excel, to shine brightly, and to be seen by others can be tapped into to curb the more restless aspects of fire and to invite the perseverance and patience necessary to cultivate one’s dreams fully and deeply in life. When this process is done successfully, the fire-hand type is capable of the single-minded intensity and focus that leads to great insights and achievements.
Skin texture
The texture of the skin of the typical fire hand is slightly rough to the touch, but not too much. It is definitely not as rough as the tough skin of the earth hand, and also far from the silken smoothness of the water hand.
Lines
The palms of a fire hand are traversed by strong, clear lines that are usually reddish in color. Just like the flames of a fire, these lines tend to cross each other at odd angles, creating triangles and squares and other geometric shapes. This angularity is reflected in the physiology of the typical fire-handed person (angular features, pointy elbows, etc.), and in the way they move. More than any other type, those with fire hands are prone to accidental mishaps like bumping into things or cutting themselves while chopping vegetables.
Fingerprints
The fingerprint most associated with fire hands is the whorl. Fingerprints can be likened to a sand dune on which varying strengths of wind leave their traces. The whorl is like the most intense trace left by these currents of energy. A whorl, at some point, closes in on itself, forming concentric circles like a bull’s eye or a spiral. Not all fire hands have whorl fingerprints, but if you do find a set of hands with more than four whorls, you are in the clear presence of the fire element.
Whorls, just like their shape suggests, speak to individuality and uniqueness, and to a certain intensity. You can count on the fact that a fire-hand type, especially one with a lot of whorls, is very much going to be a person built to march to their own drumbeat, someone who at their core highly values freedom and independence.
